Journalists should steal a strategy from programmers, and document what they are working on so others can learn from it, use it and improve upon it. I don’t think this is even about journalists learning to code (although that is great, for the right people).
Tumblr is a great place to just document what you do. You can easily link to what you are reading (as I do here) and add some thoughts on it. It works as a pseudo-resume because it logs what you know. Journalists traditionally guarded their reporting but just being public allows someone to market their work – not even in a self-promotional way, just in a “tree falls in the woods and someone hears” type of way.
